Our Values
-
Community Focused
Our goal is to provide a pleasant, accessible, and accountable space for anyone to get tattooed in, whether it’s your first tattoo or your 30th. We strive to be a body enthusiastic space, and welcome people of all shapes, sizes, skin tones, ages, and disabilities with kindness, acceptance, and accountability. All of our artists work with empathy and compassion at the forefront, and work to be trauma informed. We collaborate as a community to learn and grow, with the understanding that we are not the ones who decide if a space is safe for everyone.
-
Accessibility
Providing an accessible space for artists physically, mentally, and financially; Our studio is wheelchair accessible, and a low sensory space with chiller music, lower volumes, and a communal understanding of respect for each others needs. The Brass Iris operates on equal shared expenses and does not profit off of our artists in any way, in order to keep costs as low as possible for the artists working at our shop
-
Environmentally Concsious
Using more earth friendly products where we can. Our studio uses a majority of compostable or biodegradable supplies in our tattoo set ups and day to day running; including gloves, barriers, razors, ink caps, and more. As more products are created we will continue to choose the most responsible choices in this field to reduce our impact
About Leopold, they/them
Owner, Artist, Certified Dad Friend & Sleepy Witch
Leopold Knox, the enigmatic owner of the Brass Iris, is a figure shrouded in mystery and darkness. Rumours swirl about their past, with some saying they were a notorious smuggler, and others whispering that they dabble in the dark arts.
Despite their reputation, Knox is an artist of undeniable charisma, drawing in customers with their rich florals, spooky motifs, and warm presence. The Brass Iris is a place of mystery and intrigue, where strange artifacts and unusual trinkets are bought and sold under cover of night.
Knox themselves is rarely seen outside by day, feeding rumours of vampirism and shocking work hours. Some say their eyes glow in the darkness, while others claim they can see into the very depths of their soul.
In reality, they are a soft pal who would happily host a tea party for plushies, and is more afraid of you than you are of them.
About Jam, she/her
Admin
Meet Jam, the colourfulest gayest rainbow. Jam's world is a tapestry of self-expression; she fearlessly paints her days with vibrant hues. Jam's love for Kawaii fashion and all things pastel shines bright as she twirls through life with whimsical dresses adorned with lace, bows, and frills. Outside of picnics and snack hustling, Jam works at a youth crisis line, supporting folks across Canada.
With a mischievous giggle and a playful blink (she can’t wink: fun fact!), she’s always down for a magical journey. Her heart overflows with compassion and acceptance, offering everyone warm hugs and kind words. From collecting Calico Critters to meeting friends for tea parties, Jam's passion for adorableness knows no bounds.
